eTrex Summit
Discontinued
The Garmin eTrex Summit has been replaced by the eTrex Summit HC. Also see more handheld GPS units here>
The
Garmin eTrex Summit has features not found on your typical GPS.
Its barometric altimeter provides accurate elevation reporting and
records elevation profiles so you can track your total ascent over
distance and time. The electronic compass provides bearing information
even when you're not moving.
Like its predecessor, the Garmin eTrex Summit boasts a powerful 12 parallel
channel GPS receiver and comes packaged in a small, sleek case
with operating buttons located on either side of the unit. The
case is completely waterproof to withstand immersion in one meter
of water for up to 30 minutes.
The
automatic track and elevation log of up to 10 saved tracks lets
you review the elevation profile as well as your horizontal path
to retrace your route.
The
barometric altimeter provides precise current, mimimum and maximum
elevation information so you can tell high you've climbed and
your rate of ascent and descent whether you are on the ground
or airborne in your ultralight. The barometer has local pressure
and 12-hour automatic trend recording which could assist in identifying
weather trends and best fishing opportunities.
Trip
and Waypoint Management software on all MapSource CDs can be utilised
to transfer waypoints, routes and tracks between PC and the eTrex.
You can plan a route on your PC using the map for reference and
then transfer it to the eTrex or upload a series of waypoints
you have recorded on the eTrex to your PC to archive or edit and
reload to the receiver.
